I could pretend I always wanted to become an inspirational writer – to follow in the footsteps of the likes of Maya Angelou, Susan Taylor, Marianne Williamson, and Iyanla Vanzant. But, that’s not even close to true. Though writing has always been my passion, I was far more interested in authoring the next great work of fiction. My goal was to end up on the best-sellers lists and have a nice little Oprah Book Club stamp to show for it. Yep, that was my masterplan!

But, then life intervened.

You know . . . life. That thing that interrupts the best laid plans at the most inopportune times. The thing that makes you realize bad things sometimes happen to good people. The same thing that eventually teaches you that we all have cocoons in life, but if you just hold on, something beautiful will emerge on the other side.

Life made me a writer, teacher, counselor, and inspirational speaker. Life helped me create three literary works: “I Wrote A Poem” (a collection of poetry), “When I Was Broken” (an inspirational love story about a woman struggling to pick up the pieces after her husband’s schizophrenic breakdown) and “You Are Not Alone” (a collection of inspirational thoughts). Life brought my purpose to me and dropped it right into my lap, just when I’d started to question whether I’d ever find my true destiny.

Author imani has a degree in journalism from the University of Texas at Austin and a law degree from Howard University. In addition to writing, she loves music, running – admittedly very slowly, traveling to exotic beaches, and event planning. She is currently working on a screenplay for “When I Was Broken” and on a sequel entitled “You Are Not Alone In Your Journey To Healing.”
